Delhi firefighters were battling a massive fire that erupted near the emergency ward at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on Saturday at 5:00pm
34 fire trucks arrived at the spot to contain the blaze. The fire broke out on the second floor of the hospital at the PC block. The non-patients’ block consists of doctors’ rooms, research labs, etc.
The thick smoke from the Microbiology department brought panic among patients, attendants and staffs. According to the statement of the hospital the fire at the teaching Block of AIIMS has been put off completely.
As a precautionary measure, patients in the AB wing were temporarily shifted to the other wings of the hospital.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Twitter, “The fire in AIIMS building will be brought under control at the earliest. Fire Service trying it’s best to extinguish the fire. I appeal to everyone to maintain calm and allow the Fire Services personnel to do their work.”
According to report, a short circuit led to the fire at the hospital.
As a safety measure, the hospital has shut its emergency lab, the super-speciality OPD ward and the AB1 ward.
