Indore raid by excise department: 90L of unfit liquor seized
On Thursday, the Indore excise department carried out raids at two places after getting a tip-off. During this raid, they found that a large quantity of illegal liquor was being prepared which they seized. This liquor is ‘unfit’ for human consumption and can cause serious health issues, including the death of the person who drank it.
In a statement, the assistant excise commissioner Raj Narayan said, “Acting on a tip-off, we carried out a raid at Mewat Hayat Dhaba (highway hotel) situated on AB Road near Manpur in Mhow tehsil and seized around 90 litre of overproof spirit, which is unfit for human consumption. Besides, the team seized 25 empty drums from the spot, which were kept for the storage of spirits.”
Liquor has a particular way of dilution so as to make it drinkable, if there’s an error in the production, liquor becomes unfit to drink and can lead to serious health issues.
This raid comes after 24 people died in Morena due to the consumption of ‘poisonous’ liquor, which led to the state government removing the district collector as well as the superintendent of police from their posts. A special investigation team (SIT) was also formed to probe into the matter.
