The civic body takes action against one of the oldest talkies of the city. Regal Talkies has been sealed by the police corps. It was discovered that Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has taken over the land to use it for future projects. People use to name the talkies as the theatre of dreams, which came up as a royal endeavor.
The report says Maharaja Yashwantrao Holkar in 1930 had given the land to a family and the building was constructed in the year 1934. Right from then, it has remained as an epicenter for entertainment. The owner of the family had applied for renewal of lease which got expired, but the request was turned down by IMC as authorities wanted to take back possession of the property.
IMC files an application before the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) to issue an eviction order against Regal Talkies. Opposing the decision family moves to the high court urging to take action against the same. But the decision turned down after which IMC swung into action to take procession.
One of the authorities of IMC wing additional commissioner Devendra Singh says that “the lease deed had already expired and the matter was pending in court. We have now sealed the entire property after the issue was cleared by the court,”. He adds that the property will remain close as IMC plans to use the land for other developmental projects. He refuses to disclose the plans of IMC on whether the talkies would be demolished or used for another purpose.
