Fit India Movement 2020 Highlights: More ‘fit’ India, more ‘hit’ India, says PM Modi
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the first anniversary of the Fit India Movement 2020 in which he interacted with fitness influencers and citizens from around the country. Many famous personalities were a part of this virtual celebration, including Indian Cricket Team Captain Virat Kohli, actor and fitness promoter Milind Soman, nutrition expert Rujuta Diwekar, Paralympian gold medalist Devendra Jhajharia and others.
The Fit India Movement was envisioned and launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2019, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium complex in Delhi. It was launched on the occasion of the National Sports Day – the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand with the aim to encourage people to include physical activity and sports in their everyday lives. Since its launch, various events have been organized under it which saw enthusiastic participation of people from everywhere in India.
In this nation-wide online Fit India Dialogue, participants shared their fitness journey and the tips and tricks they have learned while on the journey. PM Modi also shared the secret recipe behind his fitness and asked if Virat Kohli ever gets tired.
PM Modi also emphasized the importance of mental health, especially during times such as these. He said that the reverse of ‘A sound mind resides in a sound body’ also holds true.
He said that it’s usually the parents who teach good habits to the young ones. But in recent days, the trend has reversed and now youngsters are helping their parents get a fit lifestyle. In his dialogue, “Fitness Ki Doze, Adha Ghanta Roz”, he stressed that every Indian should play some game or do some fitness activity for at least half an hour.
Mukul Kanitkar says, “If a society decides to stay fit only then a person decides to do something to make himself fit. I am happy that people nowadays are following the same. After watching PM Modi’s Surya namaskar video, I felt so good.”
During this dialogue, PM Modi asked Kohli what is Yo-Yo test to which Kohli replied that India’s fitness index was and is still low but to make it better a multi-stage fitness test is present because staying fit was important to take on the world. He explains that anyone who fails this test will be kicked out, even if it’s him, the captain of the Indian national cricket team. PM Modi also congratulated him on their pregnancy news.
In this virtual conference, Milind Soman lauded PM Modi’s Fit India Movement 2020 initiative and its age-specific fitness modules. He said that one can stay fit with what they have if they have the mental motivation to maintain fitness. He said, “I have been a proponent of doing simple things and therefore, in the presence of our Prime Minister, I will speak on simple ways to be healthy and fit at any age.”
