Russian President Vladimir Putin announces World’s first coronavirus vaccine, countries rushing to pre-book it
Amid growing cases of coronavirus, a few good news is also coming out from many countries around the world. Many countries including India, Russia, UK, USA are in the process of making of Coronavirus vaccine. But it seems like Russia has beaten them to it!
On Tuesday, President Vladimir Putin said that Russia has developed a vaccine against coronavirus. Russia granted regulatory approval to the vaccine, named Sputnik V after being in the trial for two months only. According to Putin, this speaks of the scientific advancement of Russian scientists.
Many countries, so far, have sought Russia’s Corona vaccine Sputnik V. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), says twenty countries have demanded millions of doses of the vaccine. According to Kirill, those seeking include Latin America, Middle Eastern countries, and some Asian countries. He also said that the third phase of the trial will be held in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and a few other countries.
However, a few countries like the US and UK including the World Health Organization have objected to this vaccine’s safety and efficacy. They have raised questions about its speedy trial and approval, but the Russian business conglomerate Sistema said that they are expecting to put it into mass production by the end of this year.
Dismissing those concerns, Putin said at a government meeting on state television that the vaccine, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute, was safe and that they have vaccinated his daughter as well. “I know that it works quite effectively, forms strong immunity, and I repeat, it has passed all the needed checks,” said Vladimir Putin.
Speaking on the matter, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko claimed that the vaccine would keep the person protected against coronavirus for two years. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said that the vaccine will start being administered to doctors this month.
