Let’s talk about Lucky Ali who took the Internet by a storm with his soulful singing of ‘O Sanam’
Lucky Ali is a famous Indian singer and actor who is recently gaining traction on social media after a video surfaced on the internet where he was strumming his guitar and singing along to his famous song ‘O Sanam’. The video was uploaded by photographer Saad Khan on YouTuber and it has been shared numerous times by the singer’s fans gushing over his melodious voice and the acoustics.
Lucky Ali was born on 19 September 1958 to famous Bollywood comedian Mehmood Ali who named him Maqsood Mahmud Ali. He had a complicated relationship with his father as he was always away on shoots and Lucky studying in a boarding school.
Ali made his debut in the Indian music world with the album ‘Sunoh’. He married Masuma who starred in the video of his song ‘O Sanam’. They went on to have two children, Ta’awwuz and Tasmiyah. Lucky Ali later married a Parsi girl named Inaya and two children with her, Sara and Raiyan. He married a third time in 2010 to a British model named Kate Elizabeth Hallam but they got divorced in 2017. The couple has a son named Dani Maqsood Ali.
Lucky Ali’s debut album Sunoh was a huge success and made him one of the popular names in Indian pop. He won the 1996 Screen Awards for his debut album in the category of Best Pop Male Singer and the Channel V Viewer’s Choice Award in 1997. His songs also made it in the MTV Asia Charts and stayed on there for 60 weeks. ‘O Sanam’, a song from the album, is considered one of the best Indian pop songs to date.
He then went on to release his second album named ‘Sifar’ but it did not reach the heights of his previous album. Lucky Ali’s third and fourth albums were ‘Aks’ and ‘Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai’, both were loved by music lovers.
Lucky Ali is known for his distinctive style and melodious voice. His music album reflects various expressions like freedom, loneliness, instability, etc. His Bollywood debut was with the song ‘Nasha Nasha’ in the movie ‘Dushman Duniya Ka’. He tried his hands at Indian playback singing with the song ‘Walking All Alone’ in the 1978 film ‘Ek Baap Chhe Bete’.
He also sang in the movie ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ and won the 2001 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for ‘Ek Pal Ka Jeena’ song from this movie.
From his first appearance in the 1962 film ‘Chote Nawab’ to the 2002 film ‘Sur- The Melody of Life’ to the 2002 film ‘Kante’ to many more, Ali has performed in many Hindi films.
